Behind The Birth of Unmask The Invisible:
Tragedy, Miracles, Family, and Hope
"After what I experienced in that coma, I also realized it was up to me to choose how to continue my story. Was I going to give up and play victim? Or give thanks and go for it? I knew I had been given another chance in life and I decided to go for it. I hope to pay forward all the opportunities and support I have been given through this organization."
- Sierra Longmoore, TBI Survivor, Ambassador, Author, Advocate, and Speaker
In July of 2020, 17-year-old Sierra Longmoore was involved in a car crash and sustained a severe traumatic brain injury (TBI), multiple skull fractures, collapsed lungs, and a mid-brain stroke. Her family was told she would not live through the night. By the grace of God, she made it through.
Her recovery has been propelled by her grit and determination plus the incredible support from medical professionals, her community, her family, and even strangers. Grateful for her blessings, Sierra vowed during her recovery to help others who survived a TBI on their journey so they were not alone.
Sierra didn't travel her journey alone but with her entire family, and community. It is the same journey other TBI survivors have experienced and what she and her family learned is that there are many facets of TBI, caregiving, and the rehabilitative journey that are not well known and understood. They are 'invisible' to those who haven't experienced it.
The Longmoore family's desire to offer their experience, provide education and spiritual support, and fill the gaps they found in TBI resources is what inspired Sierra and her parents, Amy and Steven, to create Unmask the Invisible Nonprofit.
The video below describes the family's journey from the day of her life-altering motor vehicle accident to her miraculous recovery and return to daily life. Changed but determined to live a full life with God's blessings.

We are grateful for their involvement because together we can create a brighter future for the individuals and families we serve.

Alexandria Giesing, RN
Although she mainly cares for infants, many of which do not experience traumatic brain injuries (TBI), she has extensive experience in caring for infants with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy that results in neurological damage and often developmental delay which requires numerous rehabilitative services and familial support. In addition, she has cared for many children in the pediatric intensive care unit with TBI’s as well as friends, family members and other loved ones who have experienced TBI’s.
In her free time, she loves to be outdoors with her husband and two dogs.
She is excited for this opportunity to advocate, educate, and spread awareness surrounding all aspects of the rehabilitative journey for TBI survivors and their loved ones.

We were working on a project together in 2020 when Sierra had her sudden and tragic accident and everything changed for the Longmoores. I am honored to be a small part of the Unmask The Invisible Foundation and involved in spreading the word about their mission. "
Steven Longmoore
Steven has been married to his wife Amy for 25 years and they are blessed with 5 amazing children, Tristan, Lindsay, Sierra, Aspen, and Tanner. Their most recent family additions are their 3 adorable Grandchildren, Ava, Bowden, and Addison.
“I truly believe our 17-year-old daughter Sierra was saved by God on July 8, 2020. It was because of the supportive thoughts and prayers of so many others that God gave us a Miracle. So we knew early on we must give back. We must pay it forward. We must help others who experience such tragic events by telling them about our experiences, sharing resources we have found and most of all providing others with Hope when it seems lost. Unmask The Invisible will be the foundation of it all and I’m truly excited and blessed to be on this journey with all who will take it with us. We will unmask the invisible, help others in need, and bring God back into people's lives.
Sierra Longmoore
Ultimately though, after what I experienced in that coma, I also realized it was up to me to choose how to continue my story. Was I going to give up and play victim? Or give thanks and go for it? I knew I had been given another chance in life and I decided to go for it.
I have supportive, loving parents, awesome siblings, two nieces and a nephew, grandparents, uncles and cousins who have been there every step of the way. And of course my Siberian Husky, Timber, and my loveable kitties, Milo and Mavis.
Through this organization I hope to pay forward all the opportunities and support I have been given. I hope my story encourages everyone else to walk in gratitude no matter where they are in their journey!
